Asian Arts Initiative (2016)

I am excited to be working alongside Wing Young Huie on a week long Artist Residency with Asian Arts Initiative in Philadelphia.  Wing will be continuing his ongoing “Chinese-ness” project and I will be touring and setting up the “One Another” mobile drawing station at various public locations in North Chinatown.

Hoyt and Huie will capture portraits of Chinatown North community members through a collaborative process that challenges the typical artist/subject relationship as part of their respective projects, One Another and Chinese-ness. The residency will culminate in an exhibition that features work from both artists’ week in Philadelphia, layering our collective identities through artistic processes.

My creative practice includes drawing, painting, graphic storytelling, network technology, public participation, and community land stewardship. I believe that art and creativity can serve as a critical catalyst for social and political change by engaging people in deliberative dialogue, illuminating concealed stories, building cross-sector platforms, and advancing agency and equity.
